Beijing, October 23 — Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The high-level gathering reviewed crucial reports and discussed strategies to propel China's development and ecological conservation efforts.
The meeting meticulously examined a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after it received work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee presented its work report for review.

The leading Party members' groups were commended for their contributions over the past year and were urged to prioritize actionable outcomes, unite efforts to advance reforms, and make new strides in promoting high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The Secretariat was tasked with enhancing its political capabilities, reinforcing strict self-governance, and diligently fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A highlight of the meeting was the emphasis on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the region's vital importance, the meeting called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Plans were outlined to systematically strengthen water source conservation in the upper reaches, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.
Ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs was underscored as a priority. The meeting advocated for aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. There was also a call to enhance the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and to promote the integration of culture and tourism, fostering sustainable economic growth through these sectors.
