Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Review Key Reports and Advance Yellow River Development

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports and strategies aimed at steering China's development in the upcoming year.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of several key state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was examined.

Opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were also reviewed during the meeting, highlighting the region's significance to China's environmental and economic goals.

The meeting fully recognized the accomplishments of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting noted that in 2025, these groups must prioritize effective implementation of policies, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute meaningfully to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was called upon to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the ecological and developmental importance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts are to be made to systematically enhance water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.

The meeting also urged measures to ensure the safety of vital dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It emphasized the need to strengthen the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Furthermore, the meeting called for improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development, thereby fostering both economic growth and cultural preservation.
