Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Chart China’s 2025 Vision

Beijing, October 9, 2023 — Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing key reports and setting strategic directions for the nation's development in 2025.

The gathering assessed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also reviewed.

Additionally, the meeting examined opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, underscoring the region's significance to China's environmental and economic well-being.

The Political Bureau fully recognized the accomplishments of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of effective governance, the meeting called on these groups to prioritize action, drive forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promote wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was a key focus. The meeting also stressed the need to align the Yellow River's high-quality development with national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Attendees highlighted the importance of protecting cultural heritage holistically and systematically, as well as promoting the integration of culture and tourism development to enrich the lives of residents and attract visitors to the region.
