Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing crucial reports and setting forward-looking goals for China’s development in 2025.

The meeting assessed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

A central theme of the meeting was the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Political Bureau emphasized the significance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital region.

In recognizing the accomplishments of the leading Party members’ groups over the past year, the meeting approved their work plans for 2025. It called on the five state institutions to prioritize concrete action, unify efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to China’s high-quality development and modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively fulfill all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

Addressing ecological concerns, the meeting underlined the importance of improving water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, reinforcing soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Efforts were also called for to ensure the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. The meeting advocated for alignment between the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin and national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Moreover, the Political Bureau stressed the need to enhance the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and to promote the integration of culture and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin.
