Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting reviewed reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing the work of the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting commended the efforts of these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing tasks, uniting efforts to advance reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A key focus of the meeting was the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The significance of enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law was highlighted as a fundamental step toward these goals.
The meeting called for systematic enhancement of water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, reinforced soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancement of wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Efforts to ensure the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure were also stressed.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the need to align the Yellow River’s high-quality development with broader strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It advocated for improved protection of cultural heritage and the integration of culture and tourism to foster holistic and sustainable regional growth.
