Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions to advance the nation's high-quality development and ecological protection.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also reviewed.
One of the central topics was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The meeting highlighted the significance of promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding this crucial waterway, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China.
Participants called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. These initiatives aim to bolster the region's environmental sustainability and contribute to the broader goals of national development.
The meeting also underscored the need to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. Strengthening the synergy between the river's high-quality development and national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region, was deemed essential.
Additionally, the meeting advocated for improving the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin, recognizing the area's rich historical significance.
The leadership fully recognized the work of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on making it a priority to accomplish tasks, pooling strength to push forward reforms, and contributing to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
