Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting, Emphasizes Yellow River Basin Development

Beijing, China — General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping on Monday chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, focusing on the nation's development plans and ecological conservation efforts.

During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed reports from the Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting acknowledged the significant achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. In a forward-looking statement, the meeting emphasized that in 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must prioritize action, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the emphasis on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Political Bureau called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital natural resource.

Strategic initiatives were proposed to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, bolster soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to synchronize the high-quality development of the Yellow River with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. This includes improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.

The meeting underscored the significance of these initiatives in fostering sustainable development and preserving the ecological health of the Yellow River Basin for future generations.
