In a gesture of unity ahead of the Spring Festival, Chinese President Xi Jinping extended festive greetings to members of non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), and personages without party affiliation. The gathering took place on Monday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, marking an annual tradition that fosters collaboration and dialogue among China's diverse political landscape.
The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year. President Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving the nation's goals.
"We will implement more proactive and impactful macro policies, focus on high-quality development, and promote greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology," Xi said, highlighting the government's commitment to sustaining sound social and economic progress in 2025.
He called upon non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC, and individuals without party affiliation to leverage their unique strengths. "Focus on central tasks, serve the country's overall interests, and rally broader support," Xi urged, emphasizing the need to build consensus and pool wisdom to navigate the challenges ahead.
Underscoring the significance of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), Xi stressed the importance of achieving its targets by 2025 and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent five years. He expressed hope that non-CPC personages would mobilize all positive forces to advance development, contribute to comprehensive reforms, promote high-quality growth, and help formulate proposals for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
Addressing environmental concerns, Xi highlighted the need to tackle critical and challenging problems in the supervision of the Yangtze River ecosystem's protection. He called for concerted efforts to preserve the vital waterway, which is central to China's ecological and economic well-being.
Xi also emphasized the role of the ACFIC in guiding the private sector. "Maintain enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, bolster confidence in development, and establish and improve modern corporate systems with distinctive Chinese features," he encouraged, recognizing the contributions of private enterprises to the nation's economy.
The annual meeting reflects China's approach to multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC. By engaging with various political and social groups, the government aims to foster unity and collective progress as the nation enters a new year filled with opportunities and challenges.
