Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from various leading Party members' groups and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting examined a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after hearing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
The Political Bureau acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing effective implementation, pooling efforts to advance reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the pursuit of Chinese modernization.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening political capability and strict self-governance among Party members. It called on the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee to accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee efficiently and effectively.
Ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were significant topics of discussion. The meeting underscored the need for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will be directed toward enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, improving soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.
The Political Bureau also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. There is a strategic focus on aligning the river's high-quality development with broader initiatives such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Enhancing the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism were also highlighted as key objectives.
