President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting centered on reviewing crucial reports and discussing strategies to advance China’s high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members’ groups from the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). They also examined the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
A key focus of the meeting was the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. President Xi emphasized the importance of enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital waterway, which is often referred to as the “Mother River” of China.
The meeting acknowledged the achievements of the leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was noted that in 2025, these groups must prioritize action, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
In addressing the ecological initiatives for the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were also encouraged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and the strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region was highlighted as a vital aspect of the nation’s growth.
The meeting stressed the importance of improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development along the Yellow River Basin.
