President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and setting strategic plans for the upcoming year.

The gathering began with a review of a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. It included discussions on the work reports submitted by the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

A key highlight of the meeting was the emphasis on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the strategic importance of the region, the attendees underscored the need for sustainable development alongside environmental conservation.

The Political Bureau fully acknowledged the efforts of the leading Party members' groups and the Secretariat over the past year, approving their work plans for 2025. The meeting noted the importance of prioritizing actionable outcomes, unifying efforts to drive reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and Chinese modernization.

In the coming year, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions are expected to focus on effective implementation, reform initiatives, and making new contributions to the nation's progress. The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish the tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will be directed toward systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river.

Additionally, the meeting called for ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It stressed aligning the high-quality development of the Yellow River with broader strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. There was also a focus on improving the systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
