President Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting to Review Reports and Plan for Future Development

On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, led a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau in Beijing. The gathering was instrumental in shaping China's strategic direction for the upcoming year.

The meeting involved a comprehensive review of reports from key governmental bodies, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee presented its work report.

Central to the discussions was the emphasis on advancing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin—a region often referred to as the \"mother river\" of China due to its historical and cultural significance.

The leadership acknowledged and fully endorsed the progress made by these leading Party groups over the past year. Looking ahead to 2025, they approved ambitious work plans that prioritize action, foster unity in driving reforms, and aim to propel China's high-quality development and modernization efforts.

Xi Jinping underscored the necessity for the Secretariat to bolster its political acumen, enforce rigorous self-governance, and effectively carry out all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

The ecological health of the Yellow River Basin was a key focus. The meeting highlighted the need for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Strategic efforts are to be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure, such as dams and reservoirs, was deemed essential. The leadership stressed the importance of aligning the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

In addition to ecological and developmental goals, the meeting called for enhanced protection of cultural heritage within the Yellow River Basin. Promoting the integration of culture and tourism development is seen as a means to preserve the region's rich history while fostering economic growth.
