BEIJING—On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to review significant reports and opinions aimed at advancing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting assessed reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as a work report from the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
Acknowledging the accomplishments of these groups over the past year, the meeting approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing actions, uniting efforts to drive reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the advancement of Chinese modernization.
The meeting placed special focus on the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, underscoring its significance to the nation's environmental sustainability and economic growth. Attendees called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
To enhance ecological conservation, the meeting outlined strategic initiatives including strengthening water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, improving soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches.
Efforts to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs were also emphasized. The meeting advocated for aligning the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of protecting cultural heritage holistically and systematically within the Yellow River Basin and promoting the integration of cultural and tourism development to enrich the region's social and economic vitality.
By focusing on these strategic priorities, the CPC aims to foster a harmonious balance between ecological preservation and economic advancement, ensuring sustainable prosperity for the regions along the Yellow River.
