President Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting on Yellow River Development and Ecological Protection

President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing work reports, discussing future plans, and emphasizing the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from the Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting commended the accomplishments of these leading groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was noted that in 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must prioritize action, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capacity, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were highlighted as critical priorities. The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined specific measures to achieve these goals.

These measures include systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Efforts should also be made to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and the strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, there was a call to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin.

This meeting underscores China's commitment to balancing ecological conservation with economic development, aiming to protect the environment while fostering sustainable growth in the region.
