President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau on Monday. The leadership gathered to review and discuss crucial work reports and strategies aimed at advancing China's development and ecological protection efforts.
During the meeting, the Political Bureau examined a report from its Standing Committee after deliberating on the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The CPC leadership emphasized the importance of prioritizing key tasks, uniting efforts to drive reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively fulfill all responsibilities entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A critical focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The leadership called for comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital region. Efforts will be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promote wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and essential infrastructure along the Yellow River. Aligning the river's development with national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region was highlighted. Additionally, there was a call to improve the holistic protection of cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism to foster sustainable development.
