President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Review Key Reports and Advance Yellow River Development

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the CPC’s Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports from leading Party members’ groups of key state institutions and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

Reviewing Progress and Setting Plans for 2025

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting fully acknowledged the accomplishments of these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. President Xi emphasized the importance of prioritizing effective action and collaborative efforts to drive forward reforms. He called on the leading Party members’ groups to make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and promoting Chinese modernization.

Advancing Ecological Protection and Development in the Yellow River Basin

A key focus of the meeting was on promoting comprehensive ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Political Bureau reviewed opinions on this strategic initiative, highlighting its significance for the nation’s environmental sustainability and economic growth.

The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined specific measures to enhance the basin’s ecological health. These include systematically improving water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Efforts will also be made to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. The meeting emphasized the need to synergize the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with broader strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Furthermore, there will be an emphasis on protecting cultural heritage holistically and systematically, promoting the integration of culture and tourism development to foster economic growth and cultural enrichment in the region.

Strengthening Party Leadership and Governance

The meeting also underscored the importance of boosting political ability and strengthening strict self-governance within the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee. The Secretariat was urged to successfully accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee, reinforcing the Party’s leadership and governance capabilities.
