In a bid to advance high-quality development and ecological conservation, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting reviewed reports from the leading Party members' groups of several key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also examined.
Emphasizing the importance of collective effort and reform, the meeting fully recognized the accomplishments of these institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was noted that the leading Party members' groups must prioritize action, consolidate strengths, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen self-governance, and diligently fulfill all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. President Xi called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and highlighted the need for systematic efforts to conserve water sources in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. There was a call to synergize the Yellow River's development with strategies aimed at the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, efforts to protect cultural heritage holistically and systematically, and to promote the integration of culture and tourism development, were encouraged.
