President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting on Yellow River Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing annual reports and strategizing for the nation's future development.

During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state bodies. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

One of the pivotal topics was the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the Yellow River's vital role in China's ecology and economy, the meeting underscored the importance of enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law and implementing strategies for sustainable development along the river.

The meeting acknowledged the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing action, unifying efforts to advance reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the goal of Chinese modernization.

For 2025, the leading Party members' groups were encouraged to focus on tangible results, pool strengths to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development. The Secretariat was tasked with enhancing political capabilities, strengthening strict self-governance, and accomplishing all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

The ecological protection and development of the Yellow River Basin were highlighted as critical for the nation's future. The meeting called for systematic approaches to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, and to align the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. The integration of cultural heritage protection with tourism development was also encouraged to promote both economic growth and cultural preservation.
