President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Drive High-Quality Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports and opinions aimed at promoting high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of unity and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to prioritize action, consolidate strength to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively fulfill all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, a vital water source and cultural symbol in China, has been the focus of conservation efforts. The meeting highlighted the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law.

Efforts were called for to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the river, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was also emphasized.

The meeting stressed the need to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It also underscored the importance of holistically protecting cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.

This meeting reflects China's commitment to sustainable development and ecological conservation, aligning with the nation's broader goals for modernization and high-quality growth.
