Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing crucial reports and opinions aimed at propelling China's high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts.
The meeting meticulously examined a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. It also heard and discussed work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, it reviewed the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The leadership commended the achievements of these groups over the past year and endorsed their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing action and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to prioritize execution, unite strengths to drive reforms, and contribute significantly to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in 2025.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the focus on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The leadership stressed the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this crucial waterway.
Specific directives were issued to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also underscored the need to ensure the safety of vital infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. It called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and broader national strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
In addition, the leadership emphasized the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River Basin. Promoting the integration of cultural and tourism development was identified as a key initiative to enhance the region's socio-economic growth.
