President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing significant reports and opinions aimed at advancing high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also reviewed.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing effective action, consolidating efforts to push forward reforms, and making new contributions to high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Attention was also given to ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting emphasized the need to align the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the region.
The meeting underscored the CPC leadership’s commitment to ecological preservation, high-quality development, and the well-being of the Chinese people, reaffirming these objectives as central to China’s ongoing modernization efforts.
