President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports and advancing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also reviewed.
The meeting fully recognized the efforts of the leading Party members' groups of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, the SPC, and the SPP over the past year. Their work plans for 2025 were approved, highlighting a commitment to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
In 2025, these leading Party members' groups are encouraged to prioritize action, pool strength to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to the nation's objectives. The meeting emphasized the importance of the Secretariat boosting political ability, strengthening strict self-governance, and accomplishing all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were highlighted as significant national strategies. The meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts are to be made to enhance water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also urged ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. Strengthening the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with the strategies of large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region was stressed. Additionally, improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development were underscored.
