Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The leadership gathered to review critical reports and opinions, setting the course for China's development in the coming year.
During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
The meeting examined opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, underscoring its significance for the nation's ecological and economic well-being.
The Political Bureau fully recognized the achievements of the leading Party members' groups of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, the SPC, and the SPP over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025.
\"In 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must make it a priority to get things done, pool strength to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization,\" the meeting noted.
The Secretariat was urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting highlighted the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, calling for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
Efforts should be made to systematically enhance the water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches, according to the meeting.
The meeting also emphasized ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, strengthening the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it highlighted the need to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism development.
