Beijing – Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from key governmental bodies and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau examined reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). It also reviewed the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of these leading Party groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on the need for these institutions to prioritize effective action, strengthen reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, uphold strict self-governance, and diligently fulfill the tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
Highlighting the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts are to be made to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
The meeting also emphasized ensuring the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It stressed the importance of aligning the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, the protection of cultural heritage and the integration of culture and tourism development were highlighted as vital components of the region's holistic development.
This meeting underscores the CPC Central Committee's commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, aiming to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship in one of China’s most vital regions.
