Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions from key Party groups and discussed strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). It also reviewed the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

Recognizing the achievements of these leading Party groups over the past year, the meeting approved their work plans for 2025. The leaders emphasized the importance of making it a priority to get things done, pooling strength to push forward reforms, and contributing to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in the coming year.

The Secretariat was urged to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts should be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the need to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It called for strengthening the synergy of the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Furthermore, it emphasized improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
