President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting focused on reviewing a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state institutions. These include the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
Also on the agenda were opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, highlighting the region's strategic significance in China's development plans.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the need for these groups to prioritize action, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in 2025.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were underscored as vital. The meeting called for promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
Specific tasks outlined included systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting highlighted the need to align the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Additionally, there was a call to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage in the basin and promote the integration of culture and tourism development.
