President Xi Chairs CPC Meeting on High-Quality Development and Yellow River Protection

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions aimed at advancing high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The CPC leadership reviewed work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also examined.

The meeting fully acknowledged the accomplishments of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting called on these groups to prioritize tasks that advance high-quality development and contribute to China's modernization in 2025.

The Secretariat was urged to bolster political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the significance of ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts were urged to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and improve wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The CPC leadership also stressed the need to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. They advocated for aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader regional strategies, including the large-scale development of western China and the rise of the central region.

Enhancing the comprehensive protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin were identified as vital components of the region's sustainable development.
