President Xi Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Review Key Reports and Strategies

Beijing, October 23, 2023 — General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing crucial reports and discussing opinions aimed at propelling China's development forward.

The meeting meticulously reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after it heard and discussed work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was examined.

Opinions on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were also a focal point of the meeting.

The leadership wholeheartedly recognized the achievements of the leading Party members' groups of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, the SPC, and the SPP over the past year. Their work plans for 2025 received approval, highlighting the Party's commitment to future progress.

Emphasizing the importance of the upcoming year, the meeting noted that in 2025, these leading groups must prioritize action, unify efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting underscored the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. It called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and emphasized systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting highlighted the need to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies for the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it called for improved protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of integrated culture and tourism development.
