President Xi Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Review Key Reports and Chart 2025 Plans

On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The meeting focused on reviewing important reports and setting strategic plans for the upcoming year.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of five key state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also examined.

The meeting acknowledged the significant achievements made by these institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to prioritize effective implementation, foster collaboration, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization in 2025.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The meeting underscored the crucial role of the Yellow River in China's ecological and economic landscape and called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

Specific measures were proposed to enhance conservation efforts: systematically improving water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. It called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and broader national strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Additionally, efforts to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River were highlighted. The integration of culture and tourism development was encouraged to promote sustainable economic growth and preserve the rich historical legacy of the region.
