On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, led a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The gathering focused on reviewing crucial reports and setting the direction for China's high-quality development and ecological protection efforts.
The meeting meticulously examined a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. It also carefully reviewed work reports from the leading Party members' groups of five key state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was discussed.
The CPC Central Committee recognized and commended the achievements of these groups over the past year. Looking ahead to 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions were urged to prioritize action, collaborate to drive reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was encouraged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A key highlight of the meeting was the emphasis on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The leaders called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this crucial waterway.
Strategies were discussed to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle sections, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and critical infrastructure along the river.
Efforts to synchronize the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region, were also highlighted. Additionally, the meeting underscored the need to protect cultural heritage holistically and systematically and to promote the integration of culture and tourism development in the region.
