President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting reviewed reports from key state institutions and focused on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau examined a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting fully acknowledged the efforts of these leading Party groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized that in 2025, these groups must prioritize accomplishing tasks, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and China's modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively fulfill all responsibilities entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant focus of the meeting was ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Political Bureau called for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined measures to improve conservation and governance across the river's upper, middle, and lower reaches.

Efforts are to be made to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the need to align the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Initiatives to protect cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism development were also discussed.
