China Media Group (CMG) held a press conference on Sunday to unveil the highlights and technological innovations of the upcoming 2025 Spring Festival Gala, heralding a cultural extravaganza that integrates tradition with cutting-edge technology.
As the first gala since the Spring Festival’s inscription on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, CMG aims to weave more elements of intangible cultural heritage into the event, creating a rich cultural feast for audiences around the world.
Bringing Ordinary People to Center Stage
In a departure from tradition, this year’s gala invites ordinary people from all walks of life to become the protagonists of the celebration. By spotlighting everyday heroes, CMG seeks to resonate more deeply with audiences and reflect the diversity of Chinese society.
Pioneering Technological Innovations
The 2025 gala promises to push the boundaries of broadcast technology. Continuing the application of 8K ultra-high-definition technology, CMG will utilize artificial intelligence and innovative shooting techniques like “XR+ digital twin +VP” to create infinite virtual stage spaces. Audiences can expect an immersive viewing experience with 360-degree and 3D visuals, especially enhanced for vertical screens.
Advancing Accessibility
For the first time, the gala will feature barrier-free broadcasts tailored for visually and hearing-impaired audiences. Sign language interpreters will provide real-time interpretation at the concert hall through augmented reality (AR) virtual technology, ensuring that the cultural festivities are accessible to all.
Star-Studded Host Lineup
Popular CCTV hosts Ren Luyu, Sa Beining, Nigemaiti Reheman, Long Yang, and Ma Fanshu have been announced as co-hosts for the main event in Beijing, bringing their charisma and familiarity to viewers both at home and abroad.
Global Broadcast Reach
The gala is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. on January 28 across multiple platforms, including 4K and 8K Ultra HD channels, as well as new media platforms like CCTV news and CRI. Internationally, CMG’s global reach extends through English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian channels of CGTN. Over 82 foreign language communication platforms will collaborate with more than 2,600 mainstream media outlets in 200 countries and regions to broadcast and report on the gala, sharing the joyous occasion with a worldwide audience.
