Xi Jinping Seeks Stronger China-Vietnam Ties Towards Shared Future

Beijing, October 14, 2023 — Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his readiness on Saturday to work with Vietnamese leaders to deepen strategic mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation, and achieve new milestones in building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance.

In a message exchanged with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, Xi highlighted the profound friendship between the two nations.

“China and Vietnam, as friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi stated. He emphasized that since establishing diplomatic relations 75 years ago, both countries have fought side by side and supported each other in their struggles for national independence and liberation. “‘So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China, because we are both comrades and brothers’ has become the most vivid portrayal of the relations between our two parties and countries,” he added.

Xi noted that in advancing socialism, China and Vietnam have learned from each other and progressed hand in hand, deepening their comprehensive strategic cooperation. He underscored that sharing the same ideals and pursuing a shared future is the most striking feature of the relations between the two parties and countries.

Reflecting on his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi recalled that both sides pledged to work towards a China-Vietnam community with a shared future carrying strategic significance, elevating the relations between the two parties and countries to a new stage.

As the world undergoes unprecedented changes, Xi stressed that China and Vietnam’s commitment to the path of socialism impacts the future of both parties and countries, as well as the global socialist cause. It holds great significance for peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.

Xi emphasized his commitment to the growth of bilateral relations and expressed willingness to collaborate with Vietnamese leaders. “Taking the opportunity of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges, we should keep in mind our original mission and forge ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization,” he said. This joint effort aims to deliver more benefits to the peoples of both nations and contribute significantly to revitalizing the global socialist cause and promoting human development and progress.
