In a significant move to bolster regional cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday expressed his commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the Chinese mainland and Vietnam. Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, President Xi emphasized the importance of deepening mutual trust and practical cooperation to build a community with a shared future.
Exchanging congratulations with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, Xi highlighted the profound friendship that has characterized China-Vietnam relations over the past seven and a half decades. “China and Vietnam, two friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi stated.
Reflecting on the historical ties, Xi noted that both nations have “fought side by side and supported each other” in their struggles for national independence and liberation. He remarked that being “comrades and brothers” vividly portrays the close relations between the two parties and countries.
The Chinese president recalled his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, during which both sides pledged to elevate their relations to a new stage. “China and Vietnam share the same ideals and pursue a shared future, which is the most striking feature of our relations,” Xi said, underscoring the importance of advancing socialism and comprehensive strategic cooperation.
Amid unprecedented global changes, Xi emphasized that continued adherence to the path of socialism by both nations has significant implications for their future and the broader global socialist cause. He stressed that this cooperation contributes to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.
Looking ahead, Xi expressed his readiness to work with Vietnamese leaders to seize the opportunity presented by the anniversary and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He called for keeping in mind the original mission and forging ahead on the journey toward socialist modernization, aiming to deliver greater benefits to both peoples and contribute to human development and progress.
