In a significant gesture marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his commitment to deepen strategic mutual trust and practical cooperation with Vietnam. President Xi conveyed these sentiments on Saturday during an exchange of congratulations with Vietnamese leaders.
President Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, communicated with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong. He emphasized the strategic significance of the China-Vietnam relationship, highlighting that both nations are “friendly socialist neighbors” forming a community with a shared future.
Reflecting on the historical ties, President Xi noted that since establishing diplomatic relations 75 years ago, China and Vietnam have stood together, supporting each other in their respective struggles for national independence and liberation. “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China, because we are both comrades and brothers,” he remarked, underscoring the deep-rooted connection between the two parties and countries.
The Chinese leader stressed that in their pursuit of socialism, China and Vietnam have learned from each other and progressed hand in hand, which has deepened their comprehensive strategic cooperation. The shared ideals and future aspirations are the most striking features of their bilateral relations.
President Xi also recalled his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, during which both sides pledged to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, elevating their relationship to a new stage. He pointed out that amidst unprecedented global changes, the continued commitment of China and Vietnam to the path of socialism significantly impacts not only their own futures but also the global socialist cause, peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
Emphasizing the importance of the 75th anniversary and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges, President Xi expressed his readiness to work with Vietnamese leaders to uphold their original mission and advance towards socialist modernization.
