Xi Jinping Calls for Stronger China-Vietnam Ties on 75th Anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for strengthened ties with Vietnam, emphasizing a shared future and deeper strategic cooperation between the two socialist neighbors.

On Saturday, President Xi exchanged congratulations with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, To Lam, and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam.

“China and Vietnam represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi said. He highlighted the profound friendship between the two countries, stating, “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China, because we are both comrades and brothers.”

Reflecting on the history of collaboration, Xi noted that over the past 75 years, both nations have “fought side by side and supported each other” in their struggles for national independence and liberation. He emphasized that sharing the same ideals and pursuing a shared future are the most striking features of the relations between the two parties and countries.

Recalling his visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi mentioned that both sides pledged to work towards building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, elevating bilateral relations to a new stage. He stressed that in the face of unprecedented global changes, it is crucial for China and Vietnam to continue following the path of socialism in good faith.

“The continued solidarity between China and Vietnam has a bearing on the future of our parties and countries, as well as the global socialist cause,” Xi said. He underscored the significance of their cooperation for regional and global peace, stability, development, and prosperity.

President Xi expressed his commitment to working with Vietnamese leaders to deepen strategic mutual trust and strengthen practical cooperation. He sees the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges as an opportunity to “deliver more benefits to the two peoples” and contribute to “human development and progress.”
