Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for stronger ties with Vietnam, expressing his readiness to deepen strategic mutual trust and enhance practical cooperation. The remarks came as both nations celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In a message exchanged with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, Xi highlighted the significance of the long-standing friendship between China and Vietnam. He noted that the two socialist neighbors represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic importance.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 75 years ago, our two sides have fought side by side and supported each other in the struggle for national independence and liberation,” Xi said. “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China because we are both comrades and brothers.”
Xi emphasized that in advancing socialism, China and Vietnam have learned from each other and progressed together, deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation. He stated that sharing the same ideals and pursuing a shared future is the most striking feature of the relations between the two parties and countries.
Recalling his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi mentioned the pledge made by both sides to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance, elevating bilateral relations to a new stage.
“As changes in the world, of the times, and of history unfold in unprecedented ways, China and Vietnam continuing to follow in good faith the path of socialism has a bearing on the future of our parties and countries, as well as the global socialist cause,” Xi remarked. “It is of great significance to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.”
Looking ahead, Xi expressed his commitment to working with Vietnamese leaders to seize the opportunity presented by the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He emphasized the importance of keeping in mind the original mission and forging ahead on the journey toward socialist modernization, aiming to bring more benefits to both peoples and contribute to human development and progress.
