On the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for deeper cooperation and a shared future between the two nations. In a message exchanged with Vietnamese leaders on Saturday, Xi expressed his readiness to work with Vietnam to enhance strategic mutual trust and practical cooperation, aiming to build a China-Vietnam community with strategic significance.
Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, exchanged congratulations with To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong. The leaders celebrated the longstanding friendship between their countries, emphasizing the importance of their socialist ideals and mutual support.
“China and Vietnam, two friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi stated. He highlighted the deep bonds formed over 75 years, during which both nations have supported each other in their struggles for national independence and liberation. Xi quoted a popular sentiment: “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China because we are both comrades and brothers.”
Throughout their shared history, China and Vietnam have learned from each other in advancing socialism, deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation. Xi noted that the two countries share the same ideals and pursue a shared future, which is the most striking feature of their bilateral relations.
Recalling his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi emphasized the commitment of both sides to work towards a China-Vietnam community with a shared future, elevating their relations to a new stage. He underscored the significance of continued cooperation amid unprecedented global changes.
“As changes of the world, of the times, and of history are unfolding in unprecedented ways, China and Vietnam continuing to follow in good faith the path of socialism has a bearing on the future of the two parties and countries, as well as the future of the global socialist cause,” Xi said. He stressed that this cooperation is of great significance to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.
President Xi expressed his commitment to the growth of bilateral relations, stating his willingness to work with Vietnamese leaders to seize the opportunity of the 75th anniversary and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He called for both nations to keep in mind their original mission and forge ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization, delivering more benefits to their peoples and contributing to human development and progress.
