Xi Jinping Calls for Stronger China-Vietnam Community with Shared Future

Beijing, October 2023 — Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his commitment to deepening strategic mutual trust and strengthening practical cooperation with Vietnam. In a message exchanged on Saturday with Vietnamese leaders, Xi emphasized the importance of building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that holds strategic significance.

Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, conveyed his remarks to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

“China and Vietnam, two friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future,” Xi stated. He highlighted the profound friendship forged over 75 years, noting that both countries have stood side by side in their struggles for national independence and liberation. “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China, because we are both comrades and brothers,” he added, encapsulating the close relations between the two parties and countries.

Xi reflected on his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, where both sides committed to advancing a community with a shared future. This pledge has elevated the relationship between the two parties and countries to a new stage, fostering comprehensive strategic cooperation.

Amid unprecedented global changes, Xi underscored the significance of China and Vietnam continuing to follow the path of socialism. “This has a bearing on the future of the two parties and countries, as well as the future of the global socialist cause,” he remarked. He emphasized that their collaboration is crucial for peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and the world at large.

Looking ahead, Xi expressed his eagerness to work closely with Vietnamese leaders during the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. “By keeping in mind our original mission and forging ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization, we can deliver more benefits to our peoples,” he said. He also noted the importance of their cooperation in revitalizing the global socialist cause and contributing to human development and progress.
