Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored his commitment to strengthening China’s relationship with Vietnam, aiming to deepen strategic mutual trust and enhance practical cooperation. In remarks made on Saturday, Xi emphasized the importance of building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that holds strategic significance.
Xi, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, exchanged congratulations with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
“China and Vietnam, two friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi stated. He reflected on the historical bonds forged over 75 years, noting that both countries have “fought side by side and supported each other” in their struggles for national independence and liberation.
Quoting Xi: “So profound is the friendship between Vietnam and China, because we are both comrades and brothers,” a sentiment he described as the most vivid portrayal of the relations between the two parties and countries.
Xi highlighted the continued collaboration in advancing socialism, as both nations learn from each other and forge ahead together, thereby deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation. He stressed that sharing the same ideals and pursuing a shared future is the most striking feature of China-Vietnam relations.
Recalling his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi noted that the two sides pledged to work towards a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance, elevating bilateral relations to a new level.
“As changes of the world, of the times, and of history are unfolding in unprecedented ways, China and Vietnam continuing to follow in good faith the path of socialism has a bearing on the future of the two parties and countries as well as the future of the global socialist cause,” Xi said. He emphasized the significance of this cooperation for peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region and globally.
Xi expressed his willingness to collaborate with Vietnamese leaders to seize the opportunity presented by the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He called for keeping in mind the original mission and forging ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization, aiming to deliver more benefits to the peoples of both nations and contribute to the revitalization of the global socialist cause and human development.
The reaffirmation of China-Vietnam relations comes at a pivotal moment, highlighting the strategic importance of their partnership in navigating global challenges and fostering regional development.
