The first earthquake, measuring magnitude 4.9, hit Dingri County in Xigaze at 8:57 p.m. Beijing Time. Just one minute later, at 8:58 p.m., a second earthquake of magnitude 5.0 shook the same region.
Local authorities are assessing the situation, and there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Residents in nearby areas felt the tremors, prompting evacuations in some communities.
Xizang Autonomous Region, known for its mountainous terrain and proximity to tectonic plate boundaries, is prone to seismic activity. The recent quakes highlight the importance of ongoing earthquake preparedness and monitoring efforts in the region.
