In a significant step to strengthen ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell in Beijing on Monday. The leaders emphasized their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and enhancing mutual development.

Prime Minister Mitchell began the meeting by extending sincere condolences to the Chinese government and people over the recent earthquake in Dingri County, located in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. President Xi expressed gratitude for the support, noting that China swiftly carried out rescue and temporary resettlement efforts in the high-altitude region. He assured that reconstruction work would follow promptly, stating, “The Chinese government is confident and capable of achieving victory in earthquake relief.”

Reflecting on the steady development of China-Grenada relations in recent years, President Xi highlighted the mutual respect and equality that have characterized their partnership. He praised the fruitful results of practical cooperation across various spheres and the deepening friendship between the two peoples. “China is willing to work with Grenada to align development strategies and enhance bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both nations,” Xi affirmed.

President Xi called for both countries to commemorate the two decades of successful ties since the resumption of diplomatic relations, suggesting the creation of a new blueprint for long-term and high-level development. He emphasized China’s support for Grenada in independently exploring its own development path in line with its national conditions and expressed a desire to strengthen exchanges in governance and political experience.

Highlighting opportunities for collaboration, Xi noted that China’s development would bring new prospects for Grenada. He expressed willingness to provide assistance within the framework of South-South cooperation and explore partnerships in new energy, green low-carbon development, and the digital economy. “China supports Grenada’s efforts to enhance its capacity to respond to climate change and is ready to advocate for the international community to address small island nations’ climate concerns,” he added.

Prime Minister Mitchell thanked China for its assistance following Hurricane Beryl and reaffirmed Grenada’s commitment to the one-China policy. He praised the people-centered governing philosophy of the Communist Party of China, stating that it has led to great achievements and set a precedent for developing nations. “China is a leader in the Global South and upholds the principle that all countries, big or small, are equal,” Mitchell remarked. “China’s actions match its words in international affairs.”

Mitchell expressed Grenada’s readiness to stand with China to safeguard global peace and stability. Both leaders agreed to deepen people-to-people exchanges and work together to implement initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. They emphasized the importance of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

President Xi reiterated China’s commitment to its relations with Caribbean countries, expressing willingness to provide assistance for economic and social development and deepen comprehensive partnerships.
