China’s Top Legislator Zhao Leji Meets Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell in Beijing

In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Zhao Leji, chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, met with Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell on Monday in Beijing. The meeting underscored the growing relationship between China and Grenada, focusing on mutual development and cooperation.

Zhao Leji emphasized China’s readiness to work closely with Grenada to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. “To bring more benefits to the two peoples, China is prepared to be like-minded friends, good fellows seeking common development, and good partners walking hand in hand,” Zhao said.

Highlighting the role of legislative bodies in fostering international cooperation, Zhao noted that the NPC is willing to maintain friendly exchanges with the parliament of Grenada. He expressed interest in strengthening the exchange of experience in legislation, supervision, and governance. “Creating a sound legal environment and consolidating public support is essential for deepened friendly bilateral cooperation,” he added.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell conveyed Grenada’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with China, firmly adhering to the one-China principle. “Grenada attaches great importance to developing its relations with China,” Mitchell said.

Expressing a desire to learn from China’s successful development experience, Mitchell stated, “Grenada is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various fields and strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies to achieve common development.”

The meeting signifies a promising step forward for China-Grenada relations, paving the way for increased collaboration and mutual growth in the future.
