Beijing, China – In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell in Beijing on Monday. The leaders discussed aligning development strategies and expanding cooperation in sectors such as new energy, the digital economy, and the blue economy.
Premier Li emphasized the importance of mutual respect and equality in the 20 years since China and Grenada resumed diplomatic relations. “China will work with Grenada to consolidate political mutual trust and provide firm support on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns,” Li stated. He added that China encourages qualified Chinese enterprises to invest and start businesses in Grenada, aiming to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.
The two nations agreed to deepen cooperation not only in traditional sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, and healthcare but also in emerging fields. Premier Li highlighted China’s readiness to assist Grenada and other Caribbean nations in climate adaptation, promoting the full and effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement. “China will work with Grenada to jointly safeguard the interests of the Global South,” he added.
Prime Minister Mitchell commended China’s remarkable contributions to poverty alleviation, calling them exemplary for developing countries. He expressed appreciation for China’s long-standing support in Grenada’s economic and social development and praised China’s role in leading the development of the Global South. “Grenada will continue to firmly abide by the one-China principle,” Mitchell affirmed, noting his country’s support for the global initiatives proposed by China.
The meeting concluded with the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents. These agreements span various areas including the joint building of the Belt and Road, economy and trade, green development, culture, media, and climate change. The strengthened partnership is expected to bring tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
