Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on young artists to preserve the vitality of Peking Opera by keeping it relevant to the times. In a reply letter to young performers from China’s National Peking Opera Company, Xi emphasized the importance of upholding virtue and artistic excellence.

Peking Opera, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, is a traditional Chinese art form that combines singing, recitation, acting, and martial arts. With a history spanning over 200 years, it remains a significant cultural treasure of China.

Marking the 70th anniversary of the National Peking Opera Company, President Xi extended his warm greetings to all performers and staff. He acknowledged the company’s contributions in delivering numerous classic performances and cultivating a wealth of talented artists.

“I hope you will stay true to tradition while embracing innovation, ensuring that Peking Opera continues to shine in the modern era,” Xi wrote in his letter.

At a new starting point, Xi expressed his hope that the company would continue to play a crucial role in promoting the art form and contribute to building a culturally strong nation.

The young artists had recently written to President Xi, sharing their dedication to passing down Peking Opera traditions. They pledged to advance the art form and promote China’s rich cultural heritage.
