China Reports Significant 25.7% Drop in Criminal Cases in 2024

In a remarkable development, the Ministry of Public Security announced on Friday that China witnessed a 25.7 percent decline in criminal cases in 2024 compared to the previous year. The announcement coincided with the celebration of China’s fifth national Police Day, highlighting the nation’s ongoing commitment to public safety and security.

The ministry stated at a press conference that cases affecting public security remained largely unchanged, indicating a stable overall public safety situation across the country.

Road traffic safety also saw positive trends, with the country experiencing no major traffic accidents for an impressive 63 consecutive months. This milestone underscores the effectiveness of China’s road safety measures and public awareness campaigns.

In efforts to combat food and drug safety crimes, public security authorities solved over 17,000 related cases nationwide. These actions reflect the government’s dedication to protecting consumers and ensuring the integrity of essential goods.

Economic crime prevention was another area of focus, with police solving more than 78,000 economic crimes and recovering approximately 30.67 billion yuan (about 4.27 billion U.S. dollars) in financial losses. This recovery of assets is a significant boost to the economy and highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement strategies in tackling financial misconduct.

Additionally, Chinese police cracked 38,000 drug-related cases, seizing 24.4 tonnes of various drugs. These efforts demonstrate China’s stringent measures against illegal drug activities and its commitment to maintaining social order.
