World Leaders Extend Condolences to President Xi After Xizang Earthquake

In the wake of a devastating earthquake that struck Dingri County in Xigaze city, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, world leaders have extended their heartfelt condolences to President Xi Jinping and the people of China. The magnitude-6.8 earthquake, which occurred at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, has claimed the lives of at least 126 people and caused significant property damage.

From neighboring Asian nations to countries across the globe, leaders have expressed their deep sympathies and support. Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his sorrow over the tragedy, praising the swift and effective rescue operations undertaken by the Chinese government.

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong sent messages of solidarity, affirming Vietnam’s readiness to assist in recovery efforts. Similarly, leaders from Laos, including General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, offered their condolences.

Other leaders extending sympathies include Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. Presidents from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia also reached out to express their condolences.

From the Middle East, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud sent their messages of support. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian joined in offering their condolences.

In Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed their sympathies. Leaders from Spain, Finland, Serbia, and other European nations also extended their condolences.

Leaders from international organizations, including United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev, have also conveyed their support.

The foreign leaders uniformly praised the Chinese government’s rapid and effective response to the disaster. They expressed confidence that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the affected communities will overcome the challenges and rebuild their homes.

Rescue and relief efforts continue as teams work tirelessly to reach survivors and provide aid to those impacted by the earthquake.
