China and Chad Pledge to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

N’Djamena, Chad — In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno on Wednesday, expressing China’s commitment to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and support Chad’s development and revitalization.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized during the meeting that China seeks to deepen exchanges on governance experience and solidify political trust through shared values. He highlighted China’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with Chad to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

Reflecting on President Mahamat’s visit to China last year, Wang noted that the trip had successfully elevated the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership. “After President Mahamat took office, his first visit outside the region was to China to attend the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, ushering in a new phase of cooperation,” Wang stated.

The Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed China’s stance on international relations, advocating for equality among nations regardless of size or strength. “China opposes all forms of hegemony, bullying, and unilateralism,” he said, appreciating Chad’s efforts to remain independent and self-reliant, pursuing development that aligns with its national conditions.

President Mahamat expressed deep appreciation for China’s enduring support, calling China an important strategic partner and a reliable friend. “Our bilateral relationship serves as a model of mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” he remarked. He acknowledged the fruitful results of China’s cooperation with Africa, which is based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit.

The Chadian leader affirmed his country’s firm support for China’s efforts to safeguard its territorial integrity and national unity while opposing interference in its internal affairs. “Chad is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to uphold shared positions and protect common interests,” President Mahamat stated.

Both leaders agreed to implement the important consensus reached by their heads of state and the outcomes of the FOCAC summit, aiming to bring tangible benefits to both nations.
