The search and rescue operations have entered their final stage in Dingri County, Xizang Autonomous Region, following the magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck the region on Tuesday morning, according to regional authorities.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Hong Li, head of the regional emergency management department, announced that efforts are now shifting toward resettling affected residents and commencing post-disaster reconstruction.
“The government will spare no effort in searching for those still unaccounted for and treating the injured,” Hong Li emphasized.
Over 10,000 rescuers were swiftly dispatched to the earthquake-hit areas. So far, they have successfully found and rescued 407 people, reported Wang Fanghong, mayor of Xigaze, which oversees Dingri County.
Wang noted that 187 resettlement sites have been established, accommodating 46,500 relocated individuals. Additionally, all 484 tourists in Dingri, including 13 foreign nationals, have safely returned to Xigaze.
To support the relief efforts, central authorities have dispatched a second batch of supplies to the affected areas. These include 20,000 items such as quilts and folding beds, 2,000 bunkhouses, and 200,000 winter provisions.
Residents in Dingri County are beginning to rebuild their lives amid the aftermath of the quake. Community efforts, along with government support, aim to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
The regional authorities remain committed to the recovery process, ensuring that those affected receive the necessary assistance and resources during this challenging time.
