Mount Qomolangma Scenic Area Closed After Magnitude 6.8 Quake Hits Xizang

The Mount Qomolangma scenic area has been closed until further notice after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake jolted Dingri County in Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning, local authorities said.

Dingri County, home to the base camp of the world’s highest peak, experienced significant tremors that resulted in casualties and infrastructural damage.

According to the regional disaster relief headquarters, fifty-three people have been confirmed dead and sixty-two injured as a result of the earthquake.

Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assist with rescue operations and provide necessary aid to residents.

Authorities are urging people to remain vigilant for aftershocks and to follow official guidance during this critical period.
